"We will love, care for and nurture your child, so they can develop and be all that God has created them to be.  And we will do this in partnership with you and strengthen your capacity to nurture and love your family.  Not taking your child's hand away from yours, but taking their other hand through the journey of Christian Education.  When parents have faith in the school children will naturally progress better in their educational pathway."   Sherilyn Vander Vlist, Principal

From Prep to Year 6 students follow a curriculum which reflects best teaching and learning practices to ensure that our students develop a love of learning.  Literacy and Numeracy skills are a primary focus of the Prep to Year 6 program, with Science, Health, Technology and SOSE (Studies of Society and Environment) also strongly promoted.  Specialist teachers also develop in students' skills relating to Physical Education, Music and French.

Education at Leighland Christian School is a Christ focused educational journey where we seek to value add to the lives of students, seeking to support their families as a whole.

A Christian worldview is developed throughout each of the subject areas, while Christian Living classes provide a dedicated time for students to reflect on God's glory and develop their spiritual, emotional and social skills.

 Music

"Many of our own experiences at school we won't remember, but as I see our children excel in their musical endeavours I recognise that these are memories and experiences they will take with them for a lifetime".  Del Polden, Music Teacher

Leighland Christian School Burnie Campus is well known in the region for its extensive Music program.  All children are involved in vocal programs from Kindergarten through to Year 6, with instrumental programs available from Year 1 onwards.

We recognise that students all have different ways of thinking and learning, and musical intelligence is recognised at Leighland as being important in a child's overall development.  Involvement in Music programs is known to increase self-esteem, and enhance a child's understanding of the world around them and their place in it.  The benefits can flow across many areas of their learning.

Leighland Christian School in Burnie places great importance in the Music program and we seek out opportunities to engage the broader community e.g. involvement in the Burnie Musical Society.

Breakfast Club

"We recognised that there was an opportunity to serve the school community by allowing children to share breakfast together.  The joy of seeing them building relationships, laughing and enjoying the start of the day together is just fantastic.  Whether from large or small families, at Breakfast Club all students are part of the Leighland family.  Children also learn important lessons about serving others, as they are key helpers in preparing and cleaning up.  It is a wonderful opportunity to develop servant leadership within the School".  Chris Marmion, Teacher

Breakfast Club is an initiative of Leighland Christian School Burnie and operates within the guidelines of the 'Move Well Eat Well' program, which aims to:

  • Improve students' concentration and learning capacity
  • Educate students about the importance of healthy eating
  • Promote healthy school environment

Breakfast Club offers cereal, toast and a drink of Milo for children every school morning.

Ulverstone Campus

"God has a unique plan for every child, and we focus on them as individuals.  We aim to continue growing each child's confidence in who they are and what they will become.  A great strength of the Primary program at Leighland is that all our teachers carefully plan and teach from a Christian worldview.  We also welcome parents into the classroom and encourage involvement in their child's education.  It is important that our Primary School strongly leads into and prepares our children for Middle School and beyond.  The Primary homework program therefore builds from year to year, developing study skills and habits that will be critical in the High School years."  Keryn Coates, Primary Curriculum Coordinator

A buddy system operates between Year 3 and Kindergarten students, known as the 'Bunchkin' program, encouraging students to be strong role models within the Primary community.
